In October 2015, I went to the very first NerdCon: Stories. There, for the first time, I felt like my work and my words mattered. The conference provided Open Mic readings. I saw and heard readers performing for the first time in front of an audience, sharing their written work for the first time ever. I saw diversity. I saw leadership. I saw empowerment. I saw bravery. I saw growth, and learning, and experiences. We were all witness to each other’s art.
But once I left that room, that space we had created to share and hear and listen and learn and be on equal footing ceased to exist. I didn’t know where to turn to get that experience again. To provide that experience again.
It was like I walked out of the Room of Requirement and couldn’t find it again.
That’s where Wizards in Space comes from. A physical set of pages for our community to have an “open mic.”
Wizards in Space Literary Magazine is a space for wizard writers. It’s a niche community within a community, for voices and art that you don’t quite know where it belongs. This is where you belong. For wizards. In space. In this space.
We’re feel makers. Let’s make people feel stuff.
